Happy Sunday!
It’s an overcast, humid summer afternoon in Madison today. The air is damp, and the skies are gray — not a typically beautiful day, yet I’m enjoying it. I started the morning with a run around the neighborhood, and it began to sprinkle on my way home. It felt so good to move through those cool raindrops falling from above, and I was reminded again how crucial it is to notice these small details.Â
I’ve been reflecting on the summer season lately and enjoying myself more as a result. Can you appreciate heat and humidity? Apparently, so — I have, anyway. Paying attention to things frequently pays dividends, so I thought it would be fun to publish a feature focused on photography that captures these summer vibes.Â
I’m partnering with the Joseph Bellows Gallery to highlight a selection of photographs from their latest online exhibition, Summer Color, today. These images convey the easygoing vibes of the summer season. Sunsets, T-shirts, ice cream, green grass — picturing these pleasures is what photography does best. Below are five of my favorites from the show. Which ones resonate with you?Â
You can explore the entire exhibition and learn more about each of these artists on the Joseph Bellows Gallery website. Enjoy!
Call for COLOR Redux
Speaking of color, thank you to everyone who sent in submissions for my Call for COLOR. There are some amazing pieces coming in, and I can’t wait to share them with you. Just look at this stunning work by Andrew Tesdahl — Gorgeous, right?
After giving it some thought, I’ve decided not to curate a single show of color photographs but to introduce a rolling feature to the newsletter, something along the lines of what I do with Five Photographers or my Show & Tell interview series.
This feature will showcase periodic selections of color photography to brighten your inbox. If you have something colorful in your archive to share, please email me!
The Sunflowers photo ticks all the boxes for me.
I love all the artists the JB gallery represents. So cool you are presenting work with them!
