It's that time of the year...
I'm looking for Winter Pictures, rounding up my favorite photobooks, and planning an Ansel Adams giveaway. Plus, our Saul Leiter book winners!
It’s official: Winter is here!
We got our first snowfall in Madison a few days after Thanksgiving. It didn’t stick, but we know more will be here soon. I’m one of those folks who doesn’t want to hear Christmas music before Thanksgiving, but after the turkey has been served, it’s fine with me. We bought our tree on Saturday and trimmed it yesterday afternoon. Naturally, the first tunes we broke out were Vince Guaraldi’s Charlie Brown Christmas. It’s so good! I will never tire of this album. It’s a classic.
It's a tradition to show Winter Pictures on FlakPhoto this time of year. I love celebrating the season this way and plan to show winter images in the newsletter and on social media in the coming weeks. Please show me your work! I wrote about this last year. You can read more here:
For many years, I wrote a FlakPhoto Books of the Year list. It was a fun way to highlight some of my favorite photography books and to drive some eyes to the bookmakers I admire. I’m going to do that again this year. I’ll publish this in the last week of December. If you made a book this year and want me to consider it for my list, please drop me a line. You can reply to this email or email me directly.
Thanks so much to everybody who participated in our Saul Leiter Book Giveaway. I’m excited to announce our winners:
, , and — Congratulations! Watch your inbox for an email from me, you three. The folks at Thames & Hudson will get your books to you soon. I loved learning about you in the comments. It’s exciting to see so many interesting people reading the newsletter. Thank you so much for being here. I appreciate it.Finally, I’m teaming up with the Ansel Adams Trust to give away ten copies of the 40th anniversary Ansel Adams 2024 Wall Calendar in a few weeks. Stay tuned!
There is so much hate towards winter (I’m occasionally guilty lol), but there is little that competes with the beauty and mysteriousness it brings! I absolutely love photographing it. Is the best way to share our images with you through Instagram?
Andy you’re right. Vince Guaraldi’s Charlie Brown Christmas album is excellent!
