Well, for better or worse, I’ve decided to give Instagram another shot. The app has gone downhill in many ways, yet it seems the go-to for most of my artist and photographer friends. I’ve missed seeing their work by tuning out, and I hate that. So, I’m trying something different and turning on notifications for select artists and publishers to stay current with their projects.
We’ll see how it goes.
I don’t blame you if you deleted the app — it’s problematic in so many ways. But if you still use Instagram, I would love to see your feed. Please post a link in the comments or reply with a link to your profile. You can find me there @FlakPhoto.
Also, thanks to those of you who responded to my Call for COLOR!
I’m having fun reviewing submissions and seeing many bright, beautiful pictures. Some of you messaged me to say that the SUBMIT button wasn’t working on my previous post. That may be a bug in the Substack system, and I don’t know what’s going on.
Email is always the best way to reach me. Please email me anytime and show me your work at flakphoto@gmail.com. Thank you!
I haven’t written a Five Photographers round-up in a while, and it seemed like a friendly way to brighten your inbox. Let me know if you think I should feature someone here. If you like what you see, I hope you’ll explore a little further — I’ve linked to each artist’s website so you can delve into their work more.
Wishing you all a wonderful week! Take care of yourselves and enjoy!
One more thing…
I suspect many of you know about Photolucida. I’ve traveled to Portland twice to give portfolio reviews, and both visits were a lot of fun. Their annual Critical Mass program is always a treasure trove of imagery, and I consistently discover someone new when they announce each year’s artists. The program celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year, and submissions opened yesterday. You might toss your hat into the ring.
Love Joey Seils' work! Thanks for highlighting so many great artists, Andy.
I've been quiet-quitting Instagram for a while😬, but despite its many downsides, it's still the easiest way to showcase my work. Would love to hear what you think🙌🏻!

I’m still resisting the urge to go back although I know I’m missing out on so much
