How’s everybody doing out there? Good, I hope.
I’ve been kicking this idea around for a few weeks and dragging my feet on telling you about it. But summer is winding down, and soon fall will be here, and I figure I should get on with it, so here goes.
Since so many of you are artists, I’ve been thinking it would be fun to curate a periodic Reader Project Roundup for the newsletter. I love promoting artists and their work, and this feels like a neat way to tap into the creative hive mind of the community.
I’ve been doing FlakPhoto for more than twenty years, and I am consistently inspired by the people I’ve met along my way. So, when you have a few minutes, please write to me and tell me about the next big thing you’re working on. Send pictures! And if there are links I can point folks to, send those too.
My goal is to highlight the talent from within our ranks and share it more widely. And if I can drive some traffic your way, I’m happy to help.
Email is always the best way to reach me. You can reply to this email or write me directly at flakphoto@gmail.com. I’m looking forward to seeing your stuff!
VII Foundation Curators Series on September 2, 2025
I don’t get to talk about my work very often, so I’m looking forward to this. Dr.
reached out earlier this summer and invited me to join him for a conversation about what I do with FlakPhoto in the VII Foundation’s Curators Series the week after next. Here’s how they describe the program:The Curator Series presents engaging discussions with leading curators in the field of photography who represent diverse institutions worldwide. These conversations delve into the curator’s ongoing projects and the evolving role of curators in today’s photographic realm. The series offers practical advice for photographers looking to collaborate with curators.
This is a free event and all are welcome to join us. You can register here.
Call for COLOR!
I’ve been having a blast reviewing your COLOR submissions this summer. I plan to launch this feature in September and would love to see your work. Please send your favorite COLOR photographs anytime. Learn more about how you can submit.
Okay, that’s it for tonight. The cicadas are going wild outside. There's something about the sound of those things — their droning buzz is very calming when you slow down and listen. There's so much noise in the world right now. Sitting quietly to hear these little guys is doing the trick.
Speaking of reader projects,
sent this recording along the other day. Isn’t that cool? Have a great weekend, folks. Take care!
Thank you for the link to the Curators Series discussion. Really looking forward to hearing about the direction of FlakPhoto.
Finishing up VFX on a short horror film, after which comes sound and color.
Finishing up picture lock on a friend's short horror film, after which we discuss if I'm doing the sound and color.
Tabled until the shorts are finished, but writing and recording two fifteen minutes audio plays for the purpose of printing something on vinyl.
That's my current projects.
