This was a fascinating read and still current...the birth of the paparazzi, the fight for women's rights still going on in parts of the world. I found that Pathe News report on the suffragette's reunion here https://youtu.be/fyImzmaypJ8?si=6CgPl2IR4RPLZPRa ... Barratts hat-cam is brilliant!

It is, sadly, all too timely. Thanks, Lin.

What a fun essay! This quote cracked me up right out of the gate 😂 . One journal described the fiend as someone who “delights in portraying his acquaintances in all sorts of ridiculous situations.”

I love this! The history of photography is endlessly fascinating especially what candid and amateur photographers did with it. This essay excites me with the ramifications of the way photography has been used culturally and politically.

I’m interested in the untold stories of photography history. Based on the excerpts, this book should be a treasure trove.

Thanks Andy! The book looks phenomenal and I've now subscribed to FlakPhoto. Although I focus on their application in sports, I'm a sucker for aesthetics and all manner of visual arts, so to be able to add Anika's book to my library would be a treat. Thank you again for authoring such an awesome Substack.

Thank you Andy for bring this book to our attention. I have a good but basic overview of photography’s history but feel this would really add more knowledge and understanding.

I love photography but it’s not without its dangers…

One of my recent articles outlines how photos may not be as accurate as you think

History illustrating people are just people…but in different clothes, is brilliant. I’m fascinated by the parallels of society we can ponder over in our day, and the cunning wit of the persons utilizing these newfangled gadgets of their time. I’d love a copy if I were lucky enough. Super fun read, thank you 🙏🏽
