I thought it might be nice to kick off the weekend with some pictures. It's been a hell of a hot week here in Madison, and the heat dome finally lifted this morning. Phew!
If you've been following my Instagram for any amount of time, you know I love pictures of people. Portraiture is one of my favorite kinds of photography. It's a genre, but I see it as a way to use photography — to picture people, to show us how they look and maybe even who they are.
I curated a big museum show of contemporary portraiture for the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art years ago. I'd love to do something like that again someday. In the meantime, I occasionally show the great portraits I've discovered on IG, and I thought it would be fun to run a themed group of portraits here this week.
If you make pictures of people and want to show your stuff on @flakphoto please email me anytime. I always love hearing from you.
As always, if you know someone I should feature here, drop me a line so I can check out their work. I'm always looking and love seeing new images. If you're new to FlakPhoto Digest, please subscribe. And if you like what you see, give these folks a follow. They'll appreciate the audience, and you'll have some new inspiration in your feed. Have a great weekend!
One more thing…
I’m showing photography on
Notes now too. Are you familiar with Notes? It’s kind of like Twitter or Facebook but without the ads or the bad vibes. Many passionate, creative people — writers and artists — are hanging out and sharing ideas there. I love it you and might too. Check it out!
Wonderful portraits! I specialized in portrait photography in college, but now I paint them instead. I have a soft spot for photography though - it’s like looking through a magic window that can freeze time in such a way as to reveal not only something about the subject but also the viewer.
