Thanks so much to everyone who responded to my previous post and emailed with links to your work. I have always loved curating from within the photoland community, and it feels great to get back to that here in
. My relationship with Instagram is evolving, but I really want to rely on it less for my work. It’s obviously terrific for discovering photography, but it’s pretty awful for looking at pictures.Of course, the question is how closely are we paying attention to the photography we see online? I see a beautiful image on Instagram these days, and I ask the photographer if they'll email the picture to me so I can take a closer look. Mostly, they do, which is cool, because I want to really see these images, and I think it’s important to get these gorgeous works outside the miniature mobile walled garden where they can really shine.
That said, I’m going to make Five Photographers a recurring feature here in the Digest. Please drop me a line if you use Instagram and want to show something of yours to me. You can read more about submissions here:
If you like what you see, give these folks a follow. They’ll appreciate the audience, and you’ll have some new inspiration in your feed the next time you log on. Enjoy!
One more thing
I woke up today thinking I should launch a second newsletter to complement this one, where the focus was on the short and sweet: a single image with a link to see more from that photographer. Basically, a photo-a-day email like I used to do with the old FlakPhoto blog back in the day. I like this idea, but I worry it might be overkill. Do you really want an email from me in your inbox every single day? Let me know what you think in the comments, or chime in at the FlakChat.
You can find me on IG here if we’re not yet connected. And please drop me a line if you’d like to show something of yours here in
. I’m always looking and love seeing new work. Have a great weekend!
Flak's Photo of the Day was a huge joy for me -- if you bring it back, I'd love it and forward the photos to people I care about. Thanks Andy.
Love these. As to starting another newsletter--you can always add a section to this one and your readers can opt in or out of it. That' might be a better solution than an entirely new newsletter. As others have said, there's so much coming into our inboxes now!
