I remember first getting into photography after my Mom put me in a darkroom class at the age of 10. Each Saturday I would go to Old San Juan and take a class with other kids of different ages. We would do a photowalk and then go into the darkroom to develop our photos. It was a magical beginning. Wish I had some of those negatives now. I became photo crazy after that. Happy world photography day!

Why do I love photography? That is the question.

Do you love the sound of the shutter? The feel of winding the film on — the gears meeting and turning under your thumb? The sound the lever makes as it snaps back? The feel of lifting the rewind knob to open the back — the little click, the cover springing up, and the relief of seeing the wound cartridge sitting there. Opening a box of film: tearing it, peeling the seal, the smell of it. Memories from a time when all of it was a single story that gave photography its body. That is why I love photography.
