I love seeing artists’ early work, especially favorite photographers. It’s interesting to see how they evolve over the years and what influenced them at an early age. Also, I always appreciate seeing street photography of the distant past.
Stephen helped me develop my work and pushed me to work more intentionally when I had him as a teacher. It would be a great addition to my book collection to have this book! Deep respect.
While I'm not SUPER familiar with Shore's work (especially the earlier work), I think I would like this book because he (along with Joel Meyerowitz) is sort of the flip-side of Gregory Crewdson for me. Whereas Crewdson manufactures the wonderful world that his photos document, Shore observes a different, yet equally wonderful world. In fact, in some cases, the worlds could appear nearly interchangeable — which makes me want to dive deeper into Shore's photos as I have over the years with Crewdson. It may even inspire a video comparing and contrasting the two, which I think could be fascinating.
I'm a big Stephen Shore fan and already have Modern Instances and American Surfaces in my photobook library. Would love to add this volume to the collection!

Hello! Before seeing it in my hands, I was already curious about this book, leafing through it, traveling through the streets of NYC.
I’m currently a master’s student focusing on street photography in the context of New York City, with also a particular attention to the 1960s. Stephen Shore’s work has been a major source of inspiration for me, especially as I explore photography not only as a documentary tool but as an artistic expression. The Early Work book would be invaluable to my studies, offering a glimpse into Shore’s early experiments, which I believe are crucial for understanding his later work. I view that connection with Warhol as another layer of artistic inspiration, enriching the way Shore shaped his vision of the streets in NYC. His ability to capture the essence of everyday life with such depth and precision resonates deeply with me, and I’m especially fascinated by the way he approached New York during this transformative period. Photography is truly my passion—it motivates and excites me every day—and having access to these early images would be a profound source of inspiration for my research and creative journey as a photographer.
I’d love to have this book to see his early work and to understand better how he evolved as a photographer in b&w. I have one book of his more recent work. This could be a good companion. I love to take the time to look at photo books and owning them allows me the leisure to look, reflect , pause and look again. Thank you, Andy.
My photography is very much influenced by my admiration for the style of Stephen Shore. I try to visualize the scenes in front of me as I imagine he might. I would love to have this volume.
I love the look of the lady's face in this photo of Shore's. I would love this book to be in my collection along with Diane Arbus and Nan Goldin and many others. This looks like a great book to ponder and learn from, both visually and personally.
I love street photography and I find it challenging when I go out of my comfort zone and capture humans. I tend toward the physical street objects and am always looking for photographers who can pull off capturing people well. So much to learn!
It's Stephen Shore. Why say more? ;)
Indeed!

My passion is street photography. Been a fan of Shore’s since the dinosaurs roamed shooting film.
Thanks for all you do!

Hi, I'm a fan of Stephen Shore's work. I have many of his books. This one is special, because it reveals his great talent at an early age.
I'm presently going through my own early photographs. It,s quite revealing of how it all started.
I'd be glad to get the book. Best

I love Stephen Shore’s work! Have been a fan forever, spent many hours looking at and studying the photos in his earlier book, Uncommon Places.
I’d love to have his new book, Early Work, to learn more about his first steps in photography and how he captured the world around him then.
Thanks for making this wonderful opportunity possible, Andy.

All my best,

I've got a Sandy Shore biography on my bookshelf. There's a gap next to it and I worry she's lonely.
