Hey David! Thanks for reading and thanks for the note. I agree, there is so much to look at and think about here. Please share this link with your friends. I would love more people to read it!
Print your photographs: really good suggestion. Janelle probably simply forgot to mention Josef Sudek, really worthwhile guy to think about, for instance <https://vimeo.com/172740714>
yes, Janelle, I was sort of kidding. Your essay offered occasion for me to declare my love and admiration for Joseph Sudek. I think he is a great exemplar, especially for people coming up. Also, that eight-minute French video is a pleasant sketch of his achievement. The French love photography, and we can learn something from that love as well.
Thank you. This is an incredibly rich share—wow. I took notes! you provide SO much in the wonderful world of photography and inspire! Cheers to you Andy!
A lifetime of expeience distilled, partially I am sure, bit still....so much here. Some I know and have read/done...more though is new and a pathway. Thank You. Amazing sharing 🙏
Lots of good stuff in here and beautiful work too! Need to track down a copy of that Wendell Berry book. I know the camera shouldn't matter, but a perfectly exposed negative from a Deardorff 8x10 is a sight to behold.
Of all the advices, the most helpful in any is: read. Rrad books on photography, collect photo book, immerse yourself. It's really frustrating how many photographers don't know about pioneers of photography.
It's like movie directors not watching any other movies apart from their own.
Excellent! The best I have seen since I subscribed.
Thanks Andy. There is so much to unpack from this article and her views and work. Especially for someone like me, focused on color.

Wonderful!!
And yes, can we please be mindful about using the word “shoot” in photography? 🫶🏼

Thanks for reading, Stefan. I didn't simply forget about Sudek! How could I? Worthwhile, indeed. There are many I couldn't include.
