Not entering the giveaway, but I happened to be in Vienna to see the Albertina Museum‘s incredible exhibit on Crewdson. Seeing so many of his photos in such high-quality large format prints was a really incredible experience. I picked up the book myself after seeing the exhibit, the book is incredible! Shout out to you for putting another copy into someone else’s hands!

Could not agree more with Stephan Leslie's take on Crewdson, whose work I have never admired. His photos summarize what popular American culture celebrates: "A" production values of "B" ideas. Like rap music, Crewdson's work lacks truth, wit and substance. How much contrived depression and vacuousness can any viewer take? "May I have my cyanide capsule, now, please?"

Wow! To each his own. Thanks for looking, Richard!

I too find Crewdson's work way over the top in production. If his images were paintings, made from the painter's mind's eye and imagination, I might admire them. All the staged theatrics in his images just leaves me exhausted and saying "what's the point?". Yes, all the staging and effort is at first glance awesome but then you realize it's artificial.

Wow. Way to dismiss an incredibly rich and diverse art form and cultural expression. You might as well say "the color green lacks truth, wit, and substance."

Perhaps you need to examine your dismissive responses in general?

If I said that about green, I wouldn't be the first: the architect, Richard Neutra, hated green in architecture because he felt only nature could get green right. In any event, in no way do I dismiss any art form, but I do change stations.

I was so enchanted with Twilight - it is existential and extraterrestrial, fantasy and tragedy with a silent mournful beauty.

Thanks for posting this - will check out the videos and other articles too.

I would very much like this book because the construction of images is something that affects us all. And he pisses me off. A lot. That is why I gotta look more.

You're not the first one I've heard say he pisses one off! It's always out of love but holy crap it's true!

As a retired photo educator, I live on a limited budget. I would support and collect photographs more than I do had I the funds. However, I do believe in sharing what I can with worthy causes. I was fortunate to see an offer Gregory made a while back in support of an independent movie house in Pittsfield MA. A print in exchange for a contribution! Good deal for all, and a big thanks to Gregory and all the photographers who support good causes with their work!

There is something about Crewdson’s work that speaks to my soul. Its hard to explain, but I can look at his photos for hours and never get bored. And every time its as though I'm seeing it for the first time.

This book looks lovely. I am John Ladwig and I make and take photographs. I have a renewed love for film. My love for holding a photograph in my hands has never wavered. I love to print inkjet. I feel like it takes the pictures to it's final resting place, like a frame or a nightstand or jammed in a junk drawer, waiting to be held again at a later date.

Oh my goodness. I dig Gregory Crewdson!

My name is Billie and I am a film photographer. I have been making photos with film for about 10 years. I make work about home, self identity, grief, memories & dreams. I am interested in this book because of Crewdson’s cinematic approach to images. As an avid photo book collector (on a tight budget), any chance to dive into someone’s work through book form is much appreciated!

I love Crewdson's take on American culture. His artistic visions are hard to compare to anyone else and his execution of those visions are remarkable. It would be a dream to spend a day on his set watching him bring his visions to life. Many people criticize his work as manufactured but I find it to be a cross between a painting and a photograph. Unique and artistic, Crewdson's work will be admired and discussed for years to come. As someone who enjoys shooting street photography, especially candid photos, I always imagine what the subjects life is like. Crewdson's photos manage to capture that same feeling in me. They awake your imagination....

Greetings from Idaho, Andy. No, I'm not an artist. Art school relieved me of that pretention. Let's just say shutter-bug enthusiast. And yes, I enjoy Crewdson's compositions. He gives one something to walk their eyes around and interpret. Cheers.
