Such an iconic image and such an incredible time for photography too. That BBC clip is absolute gold, thanks for sharing something to make us smile while the world outside seems on the verge of collapse.
Thanks for this. That Halsman/Dali collaboration was pure harmony based on respect and appreciation for each other's work. Also, I'd never seen that BBC video before, so it's made my day.
Many years ago, we saw a print of this on display in Atlanta (I think it was part of Elton John's collection). My father-in-law had worked as a commercial photographer and years before that was at some event where one of the assistants described the mayhem. He's telling us the story and I noticed more than one eavesdropper in the quiet gallery.
That was utterly delightful! On a day when the concept of surrealism seems macabre and brutal (hello Mr Trump and Mr Putin and the very notion of you guys having a say in the future of a third country with nobody else in the room) it’s terrific to see the results of two men devoted to art and inquiring with a sense of fun into the power of image. Thank you Andy!

I had this image taped up inside my locker in high school. Never knew the photo's backstory though, thanks!

Well said, Izzy. Thank you for looking!
Interesting, I was always curious about the story behind that image. Thanks Andy!
Cheers, buddy. Thanks for looking!
We recently got to go to his museum. Quite a treat.
Very cool video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Andy, i knew the photograph but not the story - very interesting.
A perfect image to symbolize the utter arc of chaos wobbling us toward darkness.
I knew him a little when we both taught at The New School in the 70s. He had a great, very dry, sense of humor.
