Lyrical, melancholy, and piercing all at once. It's not easy to match word for picture for word, but Joanna has, and a big thanks to Andy for stopping his media flow to ask the right questions. It's the journey right, and not the destination...
First thing I want to say, is no matter what the gear, when you have the eye you have the eye. Every image grabbed me. As a fellow fan of taking pictures from moving vehicles, I noted it from the first photo right away. I loved being introduced to Joanna's work. Thank you!
This is a great find, Andy. It is a very wonderful story in that it features a Greyhound bus. Tlak about nostalgia and taking us along for the ride. Of course Joanna's reflections are mirrors of our own lives, in so many ways. Keep 'em coming!
Thank you Andy for Joanna's thoughtful piece and her beguiling cloud photo. A tonic on this overcast Sunday in Ottawa, sky a dull grey, I'm off shortly to the local farm stand to find some colourful vegetables for dinner!
“Beguiling” the word captures the pure essence of this photo and the instant that the photo was made. I must have been a fulfilling vision from the bus.
Beautifully captured and written. For some reason Joanna’s story about her miscarriages and the lonely cloud in the sky reinforce each other and touches a pocket of loneliness and grief in my heart ❤️🩹
I love Joanna's notes on her journey. The image of the cloud is perfectly imperfect in it's fuzziness and gives a real sense of the journey she took alone.
This photo reminds me of a painting we bought in the Caribbean when I was married. One cloud over the caribbean blue ocean. It was titled "One cloud, not too loud." I've been thinking about that painting a lot lately when I'm outside looking up at the clouds, and it makes me a little sad. Maybe because like Joanna said, "before we were addicted to our devices, we noticed things like clouds."
It’s a very thought provoking photo. That area of the US is very rural. I’m a professional photographer and when I saw this photo, I immediately thought it was very interesting! Great work! Sorry to hear the back story about your miscarriage. You made the best of it though. Personally, I’d not ever go to NM again bc it feels so isolated. I would travel through it on a bus though. The word stunning comes to mind. I actually like analog cameras bc I grew up in a family that owned a studio and my father taught me how to use an old Olympus analog when I was 9 years old. There was something about shooting in analog that really appealed to me. I went on to major in visual arts with an emphasis in photography. You captured something that I appreciate very much! Thank you for sharing it!

amazing write-up and backstory! Looking forward to that book of hers!

Hello fellow Ottawan! Thank you for the lovely comment.

"Lonely as a cloud" indeed.
Thanks for this excellent piece!
I absolutely love this story.
This hit me. It’s a quiet Sunday morning here high in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I sit with my device and miss the birds waking.

Beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Stunning beautiful image. I’ve already come back here a couple of times to see it

This gives "Nope" vibes 😋

No. Tucumcari is east of Albuquerque, almost to Texas. White Sands NP is southeast near Alamogordo.
NM is full of desolate beauty.
